Description
Two houses and a carriage entrance, part of Shutford Stud, were built in the late 17th century with alterations in the early 19th century. The first house is constructed of squared, coursed ironstone and has a steeply pitched Welsh slate roof with a stone cope to the left gable, featuring moulded kneelers. It has a 2-unit plan and two storeys plus an attic. The original entrance on the left is blocked and has a wood lintel. The ground floor now has two 20th-century windows with wood lintels. The first floor has two 3-light stone mullion windows with metal casements, wrought-iron fasteners and springs, each with a hood mould and label stops. A gabled roof dormer with rendered sides contains a metal casement within a wooden frame. A carriage entrance abuts the left side, built of brick with a corrugated-iron roof; it is single-storey plus attic and has a 1-window range, featuring wide carriage doors with a wood lintel and a 2-light attic casement. The house on the right was erected in the early 19th century in ironstone ashlar with a Welsh slate roof and a brick end stack. It is two storeys high and has a 2-window range. The entrance on the left has a 4-panelled door, an overlight, and a hood. A tall sash window with horns and a keyblock head is on the right, with two similar windows on the first floor. Ironstone quoins are present. The interiors were not inspected.
