Description
No. 9 London Road is a house dating from the early 13th century, with alterations made in the 19th century. It features part-rendered limestone rubble and a plain-tile roof with brick gable stacks. The building has a two-unit plan that has been extended to three units and stands two storeys high. The left side of the three-window front, which is rendered, likely dates from an earlier period and includes a doorway on the right that has a canopy supported by fluted 19th-century cast-iron columns with ornamental brackets. The windows consist of small-pane casements. The right bay features a 19th or 20th-century bay window beneath a two-light casement. The steep-pitched roof has a stack on the left with two linked shafts made of narrow brick. The sides and rear of the house are constructed of rubble. Inside, the walls are unusually thick, measuring approximately 600mm, and there are two massive chimney breasts.
