Description

GOSFORD AND WATER EATON SP51SW 6/34 Northfield Farmhouse - II Farmhouse. Mid C18. Coursed limestone rubble with some squared dressings; concrete plain-tile roof with brick gable stacks. Double-depth plan with rear wing. 2 storeys plus attic. 3-window front has, to right of centre, a doorway with a rectangular ornamental overlight below a flat canopy on shaped brackets, and has a 12-pane sash above; outer bays have renewed tripartite sashes. All openings have stone flat arches. Small early C19 addition to right has a canted bay window in its end wall. Double-span main roof has gable parapets with projecting kneelers. One stack retains a brick dentil cap. Sides and rear have casements with heavy wooden lintels, some chamfered. Lower rear wing, returning on left, has a gabled half dormer and a loft door with external brick steps. Interior: fielded panelled doors and H-L hinges; open-string stair with ramped handrail and turned newels. Formerly part of the Water Eaton Estate.
