Description
Islip Mill is a millhouse that has been converted into a house, dating from the early 18th century. It is constructed of limestone rubble and features wood-shingle and Welsh-slate roofs with brick gable stacks. The building has a central-stair plan with rear wings and stands two storeys high plus an attic. The symmetrical front has three windows, with a central 20th-century porch situated between three renewed three-light casements that include transom lights. The first floor has two-light casements, and all windows are topped with stone flat arches. The roof includes two small hipped roof dormers and a hipped dormer projection over the rear staircase. The slated double-gabled rear wing has a large projecting chimney that features a rounded bread-oven extension. This rear wing extends to the left of the main range and was partly located behind the mill range, which was formerly attached to the house. Inside, there are partly rebuilt open fireplaces and a bread oven, along with a butt-purlin roof. The mill itself was demolished in 1949.
