Description

Manor House is an early 18th-century farmhouse, now a house, situated on Islip Mill Street. The building is constructed of coursed squared limestone rubble with a Stonesfield-slate roof and rubble gable stacks. It follows a central-stair plan and extends to two storeys plus an attic. The symmetrical five-window front has 12-pane sash windows at the first floor. The ground floor windows are fewer, with only one window either side of the central door, both now reduced in width and containing 4-pane horned sashes, set within flat arches. Chimney projections are visible on both gable walls; the one to the right is larger and partly obscured by a service bay, likely contemporary but raised to two storeys in the 19th century. The rear of the house retains a single old chamfered window frame and has roof dormers. Inside, a dogleg staircase with winders rises from the lobby to the attics. Other interior features include chamfered beams, large blocked fireplaces, and a butt-purlin roof. This building is valued for its group value.
