Description

This description covers a group of three chest tombs located to the south of the chancel of the Church of St. Nicholas. The tombs date from the 17th and 18th centuries and are made of limestone.

The first tomb, dating from the mid-17th century, is situated approximately 6 meters south of the chancel. It is a rectangular chest with a moulded base and cover, featuring Ionic angle shafts. The sides have bolection-moulded double panels and end cartouches with swelling oval panels. The inscriptions on this tomb are largely illegible.

The second tomb, from the late 17th century, is located about 11 meters south of the chancel. This rectangular chest is designed in the Baroque style, with a deeply projecting moulded cover and corner balusters. It has elaborate carved decorations, including end panels with wreathed cherub heads. One side displays heavy swags and drops, while the other side features three bolection-moulded panels with inscriptions commemorating Thomas Georg, who died in the 16th century.

The third tomb, dating from the 18th century, is approximately 10 meters south of the chancel. It is also a rectangular chest with a moulded base and cover, along with corner balusters. The sides are panelled and contain largely illegible inscriptions that commemorate members of the Bridgewater family.
