Description
The Red Lion Inn is a 17th-century inn that was altered in the 18th century. It is constructed of limestone rubble, featuring some squared quoins and wooden lintels, topped with a Welsh-slate roof that has ashlar and brick gable stacks. The building has a four-unit plan with a rear wing and stands two storeys high plus an attic. The front facade is irregular with four windows, stepping down on the left side. There is a large gabled chimney projection on the extreme left, which has a partly rebuilt ashlar stack. Each bay contains 12-pane sash windows, and there is a doorway towards the right end. One of the first-floor windows in the higher section is raised and features a brick dormer gable, while there is a roof dormer in the lower section. The right gable has a clustered stack with three old diagonally-set shafts. The rear of the lower section includes a wood-mullioned and transomed window. Inside, the inn features heavy chamfered beams.
