Description

SP4631 DEDDTNGTON NEW STREET (West side) 8/226 No.3 and Jasmine Cottage

GV II Row of 4 cottages, now 2 dwellings. Probably mid C18. Coursed squared marlstone with mostly wooden lintels; Stonesfield-slate roof with brick stacks. Single-unit plans (now combined) in 3 builds. 2 storeys. No.3, to right, has 2 matching renewed 2-light casements at first floor, but at ground floor has a larger window to right and 2 windows to left, both with rubble flat arches, one replacing a former doorway; surviving doorway is set to extreme right. Jasmine Cottage, to left, was built slightly later as a matching pair of cottages with adjoining doors, 3-light casements at ground floor and pairs of 2-light casements at first floor; only the old door survives in the left half, but the right half retains all old casements (leaded at first floor) although the doorway is now a window. Roof, of moderate pitch, is continuous over the range and has 3 stacks. Interior not inspected. Included for group value.
