Description

Mallards is a house, likely dating from the 18th century, but incorporating elements from the 16th and 17th centuries. The construction is of coursed squared marlstone with wooden lintels, topped by a concrete plain-tile roof and brick end stacks. The house follows a central-stair plan. The front facade, which has two windows, features renewed 2-light casements, the ground floor windows being taller. A central doorway is present, and the left half of the front retains a chamfered plinth. The roof is steeply pitched. Inside, the left-hand hall has exceptionally thick walls with an internal batter, suggesting it may have originally served as a service bay for Plough House (formerly the Plough Inn), which dates from the 15th century. The building is included on the list for its group value.
