Description
This is a row of four cottages situated in Middlecottage, Kingsbury Episcopi. The cottage on the extreme right, known as The Cottage, retains some 17th-century features, while the rest of the row appears to have been substantially rebuilt during the 18th and 19th centuries. The cottages are constructed of coursed and squared Hamstone, with Hamstone and brick stacks, and have thatched roofs. They are arranged over two floors, with eaves rising slightly to create decorative projections, or “bonnets,” over the first-floor windows.
The row has a 1:2:2:2 bay arrangement. The Cottage features a seven-light and a four-light stone-mullioned window on the ground floor, with stopped labels; the first floor has an eight-light casement window and a four-light casement window. The other openings on the front elevation are later, with 19th and 20th-century wooden and metal casement windows. There are four door openings, with three plank doors and a half-glazed door. A central throughway has a plank door.
