Description
Tanyard House is a house that was previously three cottages, dating from the 16th, 17th, and 18th centuries. It is constructed of coursed and squared Hamstone with coped verges, brick stools, and a thatched roof, forming an L-plan. The building is single storey with an attic and features a layout of 1:3 bays. The windows include 2 and 3-light casements with glazing bars, except for a 4-light stone-mullioned window on the ground floor and three first-floor windows with raking bonnet hoods. There are two door openings; to the right is a ribbed door set in a moulded 4-centred arch stone surround, and to the left is a plank door with a wooden lintel. Inside, there are notable features such as a ground floor fireplace with an adjacent bread oven and a former airing chamber. The roof, although altered, contains three jointed crucks, with some blackening that suggests the presence of a former open-hall.
