Description
Number 53 (Weaves and Waxes) and Easter Cottage are two houses, with No. 53 incorporating a shop. They likely date from the 18th century or earlier and are built from regularly coursed ironstone rubble, topped with 20th-century tile roofs and featuring two brick ridge stacks.
No. 53 has a two-unit plan and is a single storey plus attic. The doorway to the left has a 20th-century door with plain wood surrounds, while the shop window to the right has nine large panes. There are two 2-light casements in the attic. The house to the left has a central door flanked by two 3-light metal casements. Its four-panelled door features a moulded wood frame and a Victorian porch with bargeboard. The ground floor windows have stone flat arches, and there are two 3-light metal casements with wooden lintels in the attic. A carriageway is located to the left.
Inside, No. 53 has a remodelled 20th-century shop interior. Easter Cottage features stop-chamfered beams and a chamfered bressumer above the fireplace, along with stone flag floors and a straight flight staircase with a quarter turn.
