Description

36, 36B and 38 High Street are two houses that have been converted into shops. They date from the late 17th century, with some alterations made in the late 18th century to the front. The buildings are constructed from coursed limestone rubble, with the left side rendered, and feature a stone ashlar front in the center. The roof is gabled and covered with stone slate, and there are brick stacks at the ridge and ends. The structure has a 5-unlit plan and is two stories tall with an attic, displaying a five-window range.

No. 38 is located on the left and has a mid-19th century half-glazed door set within a wood architrave, which is supported by console brackets under a flat hood. It features timber lintels over 20th-century windows and first-floor eight-pane sash windows. No. 36 has a 20th-century door and shop windows, with timber lintels above a first-floor six-pane sash window. There are three gabled roof dormers present.

At the rear left is a late 17th-century wing made of similar materials, which is two stories high and has a two-window range, along with an end stack made of stone finished in brick and a cross-gable to the right. Inside, there are cased beams and collar-truss roofs with butt purlins. No. 38 includes late 17th-century winder stairs on the left.
