Description

Nos. 7 and 9 High Street are a pair of houses dating from the 17th century. They are built of coursed squared ironstone and feature an artificial stone slate roof with brick stacks. The buildings are two storeys high and consist of eight bays, with the two left bays being lower and constructed differently.

The entrance to No. 7 is located in the third bay from the left and has a doorway with a plain stone frame, a plank door, and a flat wooden hood supported by brackets. To the left of this entrance are two 2-light casement windows with wooden lintels. To the right, there are two windows that have square stone hoods with wooden lintels below them, featuring 18th or 19th-century three-light wooden casements. On the first floor, there is a one-light casement window with a wooden lintel in the left bay, and a 2-light casement window with a wooden lintel in the second bay. The third and fourth bays from the left have two 2-light windows with stone mullions.

The entrance to No. 9, along with the rear access, is through a passage in the right bay, which has an opening with a wooden lintel. To the left of this entrance are two three-light windows with wooden lintels and old iron casements, along with a similar 2-light window in the left bay. On the first floor, there is a three-light window with wooden lintels and old iron casements, along with a similar 2-light window in the right bay. The gable ends are coped and feature kneelers.

The interior of No. 7 was remodelled in the 19th century and includes an open fireplace with a bread oven, stop-chamfered spine beams, and a winder staircase. The interior of No. 9 has not been inspected but is reported to have an open fireplace and chamfered beams.
