Description
No. 5 High Street is a cottage dating from the 17th century, with alterations made in the 20th century. It is built of uncoursed ironstone rubble and features an artificial stone slate roof with a central brick stack. The cottage has two storeys and three bays. The entrance is located in the second bay from the right and has a wooden lintel above a 20th-century door. All ground-floor windows are 20th-century, featuring concrete lintels and either two- or three-light wood or metal casements. On the first floor, there is a three-light window with stone mullions in the right bay, while the left and centre bays have 20th-century two-light windows with concrete lintels. The right gable end is coped and includes kneelers. Inside, one blade of cruck construction is exposed on the ground floor, and two blades are visible on the first floor. The ground-floor fireplace features a 17th-century moulded stone arch with a four-centred design.
