Description
Old Mill Cottage is a house that dates from the 17th century or earlier and was extended in the 20th century. It features a timber frame with plaster panels and some brick pitching. The southwest elevation is faced with weatherboarding on the ground floor and tile hanging on the first floor. There is a large brick axial stack.
The building has an L-shaped plan. The original internal arrangement is not known, but the slightly lower northeast wing has a large axial stack and a later outshut at its northeast end.
The house is two storeys high and has an asymmetrical three-window southwest front with 20th-century two and three-light casements that have leaded panes, and there is no doorway. The left return and rear of the southwest range feature curved tension braces on the first floor, while the right-hand return has straight tension braces. All windows are small 20th-century casements with leaded panes, and there is a 20th-century plank door on the northwest elevation. At the end of the northeast wing, the hipped roof extends down as a catslide over an extension that has been raised in the 20th century, with weatherboarded walls and a hipped roof. The interior has not been inspected.
