Description
Rose Cottage is a house dating from the late 17th century, with mid to late 19th-century alterations to its windows and extensions added in the mid to late 20th century. The building is timber framed with plastered brick infill panels and a painted brick extension, topped with a plain tile roof featuring a brick ridge stack and an integral end stack.
The house has a two-cell range that is aligned east-west and faces south, with two storeys and a gable-lit attic. It features two tiers of rectangular panels at the eaves level, supported by straight braces and long straight tension braces. The east gable, which faces the street, serves as the entrance front, featuring a 20th-century glazed door on the left that cuts through the framing. The ground floor and attic have central casements with bracketed hoods. Inside, there are chamfered and stopped ceiling beams.
The left side of the house has irregular window placements, with casements that also have bracketed hoods, and a 20th-century extension that includes a bow window and door. The right side has similar casements on the ground floor and a blind 20th-century extension.
