Description
A cloth hall, later adapted as a farmhouse, dating from the 15th century with 16th-century extensions. The building is timber-framed, with portions in red brick and a stone plinth. It has plain tiled roofs with jettied return gables to the left and right, a 15th-century wing to the rear on the left, and a deep 18th-century catslide roof. The original layout was characteristic of a cloth hall. The farmhouse is two storeys and has attics with garrets in the gables, featuring two hipped dormers in the centre. A jetty overhangs the ground floor, possibly with a partial underbuilding to the left. The facade is irregular, with a seven-window arrangement on the first floor and a five-window arrangement on the ground floor, featuring shallow two-storey bays under the jetties in the gable ends. Windows are a mix of square and diamond lattice wood-framed casements. A boarded door with ribbed details is located to the right of the central window within a Tudor-arched moulded surround. Internally, significant timber framing remains. Moulded service doorways are present in the screens passage, as is a rear doorway of the hall cross-passage. A large wood-framed transom and mullion window remains to the rear of the hall, positioned to the right of the fireplace. A three-light, open square well staircase is situated to the rear of the hall, featuring bulbous columnar turned balusters and octagonal ball finials on the newels, likely dating back to around 1640. This building demonstrates group value by retaining substantial historic fabric and features.
