Description

Brook Cottage is a house that dates from the 17th century or earlier, with later alterations. It features a plastered timber frame with brick modifications and has plain tile and pantile roofs with gabled ends. The house has brick axial stacks. The overall plan is L-shaped, consisting of a two-room front range with a central entrance. The left room, which is heated from an axial stack, may be an addition or have raised eaves. The right room is heated from a stack at the back, which serves back-to-back fireplaces in the room and the rear wing behind.

The exterior is two storeys high, with a window arrangement of two over one. The left side has two windows with raised eaves, and all windows are plastic casements with glazing bars. There is a 20th-century gabled porch at the centre, and plastic casement windows are also present at the sides and rear.

Inside, the right-hand room and the room in the rear wing share the stack with back-to-back fireplaces that have timber lintels, and both rooms feature chamfered axial beams. The roof structure has not been seen.
