Description
The Abbey Cottage is a house dating from the 17th century or earlier, with later extensions. It features a plastered timber frame with remnants of stippled pargetting and has a thatched roof with gabled ends. The building includes brick axial and gable end stacks. The layout consists of a three-room plan, where the center and right-hand rooms are heated by back-to-back fireplaces in the axial stack, and it likely originally had a lobby entry in front of the stack. There is a later small wing added behind the left-hand room and an outshut on the left end.
The cottage is one storey high with an attic and has an asymmetrical northeast front with four windows. The windows are 19th to 20th century three-light casements with glazing bars, and there are two gabled dormers with two-light casements. A 20th-century porch is located on the right side, and the left end has an outshut with a pantile roof. At the rear, there are smaller two-light casements, two gabled dormers, and a small gable-ended wing to the right of the outshut. The interior has not been inspected.
