Description
The Old Cottage is a house dating from the 17th century, which has been extended in the 20th century. It features a timber frame, is plastered, and has a roof made of handmade red plain tiles. The original structure consists of two bays aligned northwest to southeast, with a 20th-century internal stack located in the northwest bay. There is a large 20th-century extension to the northeast, creating a half-H plan, and a flat-roofed single-storey extension to the southeast. The building is one storey high with attics.
On the northwest elevation, there are two 20th-century casement windows on the ground floor and one on the first floor of the original building. The southwest elevation has two 20th-century casements and two additional casements in gabled dormers. The door is located in the 20th-century extension. The structure displays heavy studding and curved tension braces, with axial beams featuring plain joists of vertical section. Some reused timber can be found in the northwest bay, and the northeast wallplate has been severed to allow access to the 20th-century extension.
