Description
This is a K1 telephone kiosk located opposite the Nevill Cricket and Athletic Ground Pavilion in Tunbridge Wells. It was built between 1927 and 1930 and is designed according to the K1 MR236 model by the General Post Office Engineering Unit. The kiosk has three sides made of concrete, with two sides featuring metal windows, while the fourth side has a wooden door. It has a concrete frame with a moulded cornice and a tented canopy topped with a metal finial. There are four metal plaques displaying the word "Telephone." The kiosk has a plinth and two 8-paned metal-framed sashes with perspex panes, although four of the perspex panes were missing at the time of the survey. The wooden door also has eight panes and is fitted with leather hinges. The telephone apparatus inside is modern. Similar kiosks can be found in locations such as Hull, Bembridge, Boulters Lock in Maidenhead, the Tramway Museum in Crich, and the East Anglia Transport Museum in Carlton Colville, but they are considered rare survivals.
