Description

Woodlands Farmhouse is a hall-house that was later converted into a farmhouse and is now a house. It dates from the early to mid-15th century, with alterations from the late 16th century and a wing added around 1880. The building is timber-framed with plaster infill and features curved braces on a random stone plinth. To the right, there is a brick cross-wing that is plastered to resemble timber framing. The structure has jetties over the ground floor on both sides of the central block, with a central eaves recess supported by braces. The roof is plain tiled, featuring a gablet on the left side, an off-ridge stack at the front left, and a stack on the cross-wing to the right in the re-entrant angle.

To the left, there is a recessed late 16th-century wing that is also timber-framed, close-studded, and plastered, with a lower hipped roof. Further to the left, there is a 19th-century stable extension made of red and blue brick. The farmhouse has two storeys throughout, with an irregular arrangement of six windows on the first floor and four on the ground floor, including a two-storey square bay at the end of the cross-wing to the right. The windows consist of various leaded and wooden casements.

Inside, there is substantial evidence of timber framing, including remnants of a dais beam and crown-post collar-purlins in the roof.
