Description

Ivy Bank Farmhouse is a hall house dating from around 1400, which has been altered and extended in the 18th century and mid-20th century. The building features a timber frame encased in painted roughcast and has an old tile gabled roof. It is designed in an H-plan, with a former three-bay hall in the center, a cross wing on the left that was formerly jettied, and an extension forming a cross wing on the right, along with a small 20th-century extension at the rear. The farmhouse has one and a half storeys and two storeys, with a large central ridge chimney that has two coupled stacks with offset heads and clay pots, and an additional chimney on the right wing's south roof slope.

The west front of the building is symmetrical, featuring a central section with two projecting gabled cross wings. On the upper level, there are two three-light windows in gabled dormers, and on the ground floor, there are two three-light windows along with a 20th-century enclosed gabled porch with a plank door. The left wing has a two-light window on the first floor and is otherwise plain, while the right wing features a 20th-century three-light iron casement on the ground floor and is also otherwise plain, with a lean-to extension on the right side.

Inside, some of the timber frame is exposed, and there is a former cross passage in the left cross wing. The roof features redundant crown posts with side purlins, and there are smoke-blackened timbers above the former hall.
