Description

Tuckenhams is a hall house that has been converted into a residential home. It dates from the mid-15th century, with extensions added in the late 16th century, early 18th century, and late 20th century. The building features a timber frame with painted brick infill and has old tile roofs that are both gabled and hipped. It is arranged in an L-plan with extensions to the southwest and southeast and stands two storeys tall.

There are three chimneys: one on the ridge, one on the northeast gable, and a third with a large raked base on the southwest. The windows are mostly 19th-century casements with horizontal glazing bars. The entrance front, facing northwest, has an irregular arrangement of windows, including two three-light windows on the first floor and one very small window at the right end. On the ground floor, there are two larger three-light windows and a plain entrance door located under a late 20th-century gabled porch. The right-hand section of the house is set back and has a hipped roof, with a large chimney projecting on the left side and one small window to the left of the chimney. To the right of the chimney, there is one two-light window on both the ground and first floors.

Inside, the oldest section on the northeast has a well-preserved frame with large jowled posts and curved windbraces. The principal beams in the later section are only visible on the ground floor and are chamfered with run-out stops. There is also a large late 20th-century timber-framed extension on the southeast, which is of no special interest.
