Description

The Post Office is a hall house that now serves as a post office, shop, and small house. It dates from the early 15th century, was extended in the 18th century, and underwent alterations and further extensions in the late 20th century. The building features part timber framing encased in render and brick, as well as sections of brick. It has an old tile gabled roof, with a lower rear roof. Originally, it had a rectangular plan of three bays with the gable facing the street, but it has since been modified to a T-plan with an extension at the front and another extension on the side. The structure is two storeys and one and a half storeys high, with two chimneys—one on the left gable and one at the rear, both topped with clay pots.

The front of the building facing the road has two bays and features casement windows with glazing bars and segmental heads. The entrance door, which has six panels, has been moved from the center to the right and is now sheltered by a 20th-century gabled porch supported by wooden posts. The right side extension has a parapet, a half-glazed door, and a 20th-century shop window. There is an inscription incised into the bricks under the eaves in the center that reads "1727" I M.

Inside, the rear section reveals exposed timber framing, with curved braces and a centre chamfered scissor-braced collar roof truss.
