Description

Court Farmhouse is a hall-house, now functioning as a farmhouse, likely dating from the 16th century with some earlier elements. The structure is timber-framed, featuring a painted brick ground floor and a rendered first floor. It has a plain tiled roof that is hipped to the left, with a large brick stack at the left end and a random rubble stone projecting breast, along with an off-centre ridge stack to the right. The building has two storeys and three slightly irregular windows, with triple casements on the upper floor and six-light casements below. To the left of the central window is a half-glazed door, which is sheltered by a 19th-century gabled porch with barge-boards and wooden supports. The south front was originally jettied, with joist-ends now supported by a large bressummer. There is a blocked four-light mullioned window on the first floor.

Inside, there is significant evidence of a substantial frame. A 17th-century spiral staircase with a solid newel and timber treads is located in a framed addition at the rear. The roof features collar-purlins and a moulded crown-post. In the attic, there is a 17th-century boarded door with its original snecked latch. Additionally, there is an original door-surround, likely from the 15th century and arched, located at the staircase end of the screens-passage, facing inward rather than outward. Two mullioned windows are also reported to have been found, facing into the building.
