Description

This is a terrace of twelve houses, numbered 18 to 38, located on Abbot’s Hill in Ramsgate. The buildings date from around 1830. The construction is primarily stock brick, although numbers 18, 24, 30 and 32 have a pebble-dashed finish, number 20 has channelled render, and numbers 26, 38 and 22 have painted bow fronts. The roofs are covered in plain tiles.

The terrace is three storeys high with a basement, and features a continuous cill band and parapet. The roof slopes upwards from right to left. The arrangement is of two houses at each level, flanked by three central houses. Each house originally had two glazing bar sashes on the second and first floors, creating a total of 22 window bays. Two-storey bow fronts are present on some properties, also featuring glazing bar sashes and pilaster frames, with a single glazing bar sash in the basement level of each house. Panelled or glazed doors are located to the left of the bows, each with a semi-circular fanlight and rusticated surround. Simple iron railings lead to steps of varying flights, with spear-headed rails enclosing the front areas.
