Description

A terrace of twelve houses at 22-28 Brandling Place South, built around 1821. The houses have brick fronts, with ashlar bases and dressings, except for numbers 25 and 26, which are sandstone ashlar. The rear elevations are stone, and the roofs are covered with Welsh slate. The houses are two storeys high, with basements, and some have attics. There are twelve bays in total. Steps lead to the front doors, which include eight-panelled doors with glazing bars (at number 27) and some six-panelled doors, all with overlights. Numbers 23 and 24 each have one wide bay with a central blind window above the paired door, while numbers 26 and 28 each have one ground-floor window. Flat stone lintels are above the doors and windows of the ashlar-fronted houses, and wedge stone lintels are used on the brick-fronted houses. Projecting stone sills are present on the first floor windows. Architectural details include a ground floor sill band, a first floor band, and a gutter cornice. Plain wrought iron railings and handrails are in front of numbers 25 and 26. Number 25 has a ground-floor bow window inserted and is included in the listing due to its group value.
