Description
No. 12 with railed area is a house located on Effingham Street in Ramsgate, dating from the late 18th century and altered in the mid-19th century. The building is constructed of stock brick, with some areas rendered, and features a plain tiled roof. It stands three storeys high with a basement, showcasing a rendered base, a plat band, and quoins at the parapet leading to a hipped roof. There are chimney stacks located at the rear left and rear right of the building.
The second floor has three half-sized sash windows, while the first floor has three full-sized sashes, all with gauged heads. The ground floor features two sash windows along with two metal casements below for the basement. The entrance door, positioned to the left, consists of six raised and fielded panels, with the top two being glazed. It is adorned with a semi-circular fanlight and is set within an open pedimented doorcase supported by pilasters and brackets, leading up to five moulded steps. The steps and the basement area are enclosed by fleur-de-lys cast iron railings. For further historical context, see item 13/110.
