Description
Darenth Cottage is a 17th century or earlier timber-framed building that was re-fronted in the early and later 19th century. It features a high pitched tiled roof with an end ridge stack, which has been raised to create a pent dormer on the left side. There is a later gabled projection on the right. The exterior is made of red brick with a random rubble plinth. The first floor has early 19th century sash windows, while the ground floor features late 19th century three-light sash windows. A six-panel door is located beneath a later bracketed pent hood. In the carriageway on the left return, you can see visible timber framing with plaster filling that has been largely renewed. Darenth Cottage is part of a group that includes Eversley and Dilgerts, Markwick, Nigel Coleman Antiques, No 5 Barton's Cottages, Nos 1 to 4 (consecutive), Barton's Cottages, Ivy House, The Old Bakery, and Fig Tree Cottage.
