Description

Markwick is a village store and Post Office dating from the 18th century. It features a stucco elevation with incised lines that imitate stone courses and stands two storeys high. The building has a parapet with stone coping and a ridge tile roof that includes two leaded dormers. The ground floor has a modern shop front and a covered yard entrance to the right, which has boarded coach house doors. On the first floor, there are two sash windows with bars in exposed frames, and in the center, there is an octagonal projecting bay with 19th-century casements. The current 18th-century stucco facade conceals an older framed structure. Markwick is part of a group that includes Eversley and Dilgerts, Darenth Cottage, Nigel Coleman Antiques, No 5 Barton's Cottages, Nos 1 to 4 (consecutive), Barton's Cottages, John McMaster, Cowlard's Bakery, and P J Donaghue, hairdresser.
