Description

The large barn located to the west of Home Farmhouse was built around 1860-1870 by George Devey. This impressive, high, two-storey structure features nine bays and has a barn-like appearance, though it is divided by brick walls into smaller internal compartments. It has a high-pitched tiled roof and is constructed from red brick with a pattern of blue headers. The north side has various openings, with upper windows designed as half dormers under gables that break the eaves. The ground floor openings are set under segmental patterned brick arches, some of which have curved or rounded chamfers. There are also single-storey gable-ended wings made from similar materials, which serve as stables and piggeries. The barn, along with Home Farmhouse, the Dairy building, and Home Farm Cottage, forms a cohesive group.
