Description
The barn and outbuildings at Home Farm date from the 18th century and early 19th century. The large east-west barn consists of 14 bays, with a narrower extension at the west end that extends southwards for 10 bays. At the east end, there is a north-south range of small 18th-century cottages. The main barn features a timber frame with a tall section that includes a King post above a Queen post, and walls made of red brickwork. It has flat external and internal buttresses and decorative piercings for ventilation. There are projecting porches at the third, seventh, and twelfth bays on the south side, and the roof is hipped and covered with old tiles. The west wing has brick walls that support old trusses and features a half-hipped red tile roof. The eastern block is one storey with an attic, also with a half-hipped tile roof and red brick walls in English bond. It includes two dormers and altered openings. Originally residential, it later served as a bothy and is now used as a utility building.
