Description

Dairy Cottage, originally called Daisy Cottage and formerly part of a pair of lodges, was built in the late 18th century and altered in the 20th century. It was originally designed as a symmetrical, two-story square building with octagonal corner projections. The cottage has been extended on the west side with a modern, two-story addition. The roof is slate, with slate also on the new wing, and features coved plastered eaves above each of the central walls and a vertical brick fascia above the octagons. It is constructed from red brick in Flemish bond, with stone cills, rubbed flat arches, a moulded stone first-floor band, and a plinth. The windows are casements, and the inner faces of the octagons have blank panels. The front doorway, which faces the opposite lodge, has a six-panelled door set beneath a stone slab pediment with a moulded edge, supported by carved stone brackets. Dairy Cottage is one of a row of lodges that flank the roadway, alongside Rose Cottage.
