Description
Chandler House, located at The Cowden Stores on High Street in Cowden, is a building likely incorporating a 16th or 17th century framed structure, but it features later 18th or 19th century exterior treatment. The building has two storeys and an attic, with a gable end window facing east, a ridge tile roof, and a stack.
On the ground floor, there is a projecting weatherboarded corner shop front with a corner hipped tile roof and vertical glazing bars on the window. To the left, facing south, is a brick projection (No 14) that includes a late 19th century door and sash windows on either side, topped with stone coping and ornamental railings.
On the first floor, the south-facing side has painted tile hanging with three sets of casement windows. The east-facing side displays exposed painted framing with painted brick filling, a small casement window in the center, and an attic window above, featuring a rendered gable end and 19th century ornamental bargeboards.
Chandler House, along with Nos 12 to 18 (even), forms a group.
