Description
This is a 17th-century or earlier timber-framed building, with later additions, located on the south side of Cowden High Street. It comprises two properties, numbered 17 and 19, and historically housed the Post Office and Post House. The building has a very steeply pitched tiled roof with sprocketed eaves and soffit. It features one ridge stack and one end stack. The first floor is rendered, while the ground floor is constructed of painted brick with a tarred plinth. Number 17 has a modern leaded casement window on the upper floor and a 20th-century door and square shop front with a hip tiled hood and plate glass window to the right. Number 19 features 19th-century sash windows with glazing bars in exposed moulded frames, along with a modern six-panel door and a tiled hood. Numbers 13 to 19 (odd), Medway House, and Medway Cottage form a group.
