Description
Chandler's Arms Public House is a public house dating from the late 17th century, with later alterations and additions. It is constructed of coursed ironstone rubble and features a steeply pitched asbestos tile roof, along with a brick ridge stack set on a stone base. The building has a two-unit plan and includes a 19th-century extension at the rear. It stands two storeys high and has a two-window range. The entrance, located off-centre to the left, consists of a panelled and glazed door beneath a stone flat arch. This entrance is flanked by three-light stone mullioned windows that have hood moulds and label stops. On the first floor, there are two similar two-light windows. Inside, the pub features stop-chamfered beams, joists, an inglenook fireplace with a chamfered bressumer, and a small wood cupboard to the right of the fireplace, which has a carved door. Attached to the building is a mounting block made of limestone, approximately 1 metre high, which has an inset datestone marked "MTD 1694." This datestone was discovered in the cellar of the inn.
