Description
This barn, dating from the 17th century, is located about 20 metres north of Nos. 3 and 4 West Pikefish Cottages in Yalding. It is timber framed and weatherboarded, standing on a brick plinth, with a half-hipped plain tile roof. The structure consists of four timber-framed bays, with a fifth bay added to the left (north). There is a midstrey in the third bay from the south and full-height double doors on the west side. A porch rises from a lean-to on the east.
Inside, the barn features jowled principal posts, short arch braces to the tie-beam, and curved, raked queen posts that clasp the purlins. The principal rafters diminish in size, and there are intermediate collars only, along with tension braces to the walls. The edge-halved wall-plate scarf joint is also notable.
