Description
Oast Cottage, along with its attached oasthouses and outbuildings, is a house, barn, and oasthouse dating from the early 19th century. The house features red and grey brick in Flemish bond on the ground floor, with weatherboarding above and a plain tile roof. The barn is timber framed and weatherboarded, standing on a high red and grey brick plinth in English bond, also topped with a plain tile roof. The stowage is made of almost chequered red and grey brick, with the right half-gable being tile-hung and a plain tile roof. The kilns are constructed of brick, with slightly less common rendered brick roofs.
The house is two storeys high with a gabled roof and slightly projecting brick gable end stacks. It has a regular two-window front featuring sixteen-pane sashes, with similar windows on the ground floor. The central door has four flush panels and is topped with a flat moulded and bracketed hood. To the left, there is a red brick lean-to. The rear wing of the house is set back from the left gable end, with brick on the ground floor and tile-hung above, featuring three first-floor casements on the left side.
The barn has a half-hipped roof with slightly lower eaves and ridge than the house, a small two-light casement on the right half-gable, and a central door with six moulded panels. The stowage has a brick plinth, similar eaves to the barn but a higher ridge, and a half-hipped roof to the right. It features a louvred rectangular opening under the front eaves towards the right end, along with two smaller louvred openings just above the plinth on the right gable end. Each kiln has a brick plinth, a dentilled brick eaves cornice, and a conical roof without a cowl. The interior has not been inspected.
