Description
This is a pair of houses, likely originally a non-domestic building, dating from the 19th century or possibly earlier. The houses are timber-framed, with the front elevation weatherboarded on both floors. The rear elevation presents a mixture of painted brick at ground floor level, with tile hanging on the left upper floor and weatherboarding on the right. The roof is tiled, with crested ridge tiles and red brick and gault brick stacks. The houses are two storeys high, with boxed eaves which are slightly higher at the front than the rear. They have a gabled roof, and a flat-roofed dormer on the right side. The windows are irregular, consisting of two-paned casements, including a two-light and a single-light window, on the left side of the stack. A boarded door leads to Chapel House on the left end, and a half-glazed door provides rear access to Prince of Wales Cottage on the right. A lean-to extension is attached to the left gable end. The interior, partially inspected, appears to have an aisled layout with rectangular arcade posts. There’s a chamfered ground-floor axial beam and square-section joists to the right, along with a brick fireplace with a wooden bressumer. The left section is said to feature timber framing of large scantling. A tombstone dated circa 1620 was reportedly found within the house.
