Description
This barn, located approximately 35 yards west of Parsonage Farmhouse, dates from the mid 17th century and early 19th century. It features a timber frame, with the aisle walls rebuilt in concrete beneath the wall-plate, and is topped with a plain tile roof. The barn has mid-streys and includes 19th-century canopies in the second and sixth bays from the left end.
Inside, the barn consists of seven bays; the two bays on the left are from the mid 17th century, while the remaining five are early 19th century, designed in a similar style. The barn is aisled on both sides, with arcade plates cantilevered out at the ends to create end aisles. The slightly jowled posts support the structure. The 17th-century bays feature a clasped purlin roof with reducing principal rafters and slightly curved braces connecting to the tie-beams and arcade plates. In contrast, the 19th-century bays have a queen-strut roof with principal rafters inset, which carry purlins and common rafters on their backs, along with a ridge-piece. The barn is listed for its group value.
