Description
Greenhills is a pair of cottages, which were later combined into one property. This building dates back to the early 17th century and was refronted in the early 19th century, with extensions added in the late 19th century. It is timber-framed on a stone plinth, with the ground floor refronted in red brick laid in Flemish bond and the first floor tile hung. The property has a tiled roof with a central brick chimney stack and stands two storeys high with seven windows, featuring 20th-century casements and two plank doors. The rear elevation is partially rendered and has a roof with a series of hips. A porch was added in 1988.
Inside, notable features include open fireplaces with wooden bressumers, spice alcoves and seats, axial beams with run-out stops and one and a half inch chamfers, a curved brick fireplace on the first floor, 19th-century firegrates, original floorboards, jowled corner posts, original rafters, and a winder staircase leading from the first floor to the attic.
