Description

Chegworth Manor Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the early 15th century, with alterations from the late 16th or early 17th century and an early 19th-century facade. It is timber framed and weatherboarded, topped with a plain tile roof. The building features an open hall consisting of two unequal-length bays, with a storeyed bay on the right. The two right end bays were rebuilt in the late 16th or early 17th century, and there is a late 16th-century two-bay rear wing to the right. The farmhouse has two storeys set on a stone plinth, with the left gable end jettied. The roof is hipped with a gablet on the right and a three-quarters hip with a gablet on the left. A ridge stack is located towards the left end, while a multiple brick ridge stack serves the rear wing. The windows are irregularly arranged, featuring five 16-pane glazing-bar sashes, along with two 24-pane and one 16-pane glazing-bar sashes on the ground floor. A panelled door is located under a flat hood on brackets, accessed by one step towards the right end. Inside, the farmhouse showcases exposed timbers, frieze windows with ovolo-moulded mullions on the left gable end at ground level, posts with long, cut jowls, and an octagonal crown-post with scroll moulding. The hip at the left gable end is supported by very short upper crucks.
