Description

Homestall Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the late 15th century or early 16th century, with an early 16th-century wing and a facade from the late 18th century or early 19th century. The building is timber framed, featuring a ground floor made of chequered red and grey brick and a first floor that is weatherboarded. The first floor of the wing is tile-hung, and the roof is covered with plain tiles.

The farmhouse is an open hall house, with the right end bay and the right bay of the hall still intact. There is a rear wing to the right, consisting of three timber-framed bays, including a bay for the rear stack. The structure has two storeys, and the right end bay was formerly jettied at the front and to the right. It features a modillioned wooden eaves cornice and a hipped roof, with a central brick ridge stack and a rear stack for the wing.

The front of the farmhouse has a regular two-window arrangement with tripartite sashes. The central door consists of six fielded panels and is topped with a flat corniced hood. Inside, the farmhouse showcases exposed framing, a moulded and brattished end-of-hall beam, and a four-centred arched doorhead. The rear wall of the front range has close studding, while the rear wing features rebated principal posts and mortices for diamond mullioned windows.
