Description
The former toll house, now a house, dates from the early 19th century and has undergone later alterations. It features a chequered pattern of red and grey brick in Flemish bond on the front elevation and gable ends, while the rear elevation is constructed from small blocks of Bethersden marble. The building has a plain tile roof and is situated at the junction of Smarden Road and Biddenden Road, with a rectangular plan.
The Biddenden Road elevation is two storeys high and includes a plain band and slightly projecting eaves with flat soffits. The roof is hipped, with a rear stack on the left and a slightly projecting stack on the right gable end. The front has a regular two-window arrangement with 2-light casements, and there is a small 12-pane Gothick casement on the ground floor of the left gable end. The rear has no windows except for a small ground-floor light. A boarded door with a segmental head is located in a brick porch on the left gable end. The interior has not been inspected.
