Description

Langley Lodge is a house dating from the mid-to-late 18th century, with an addition from the mid-19th century. It is believed to have a core dating back to the 16th century. The 18th-century section is constructed of chequered red and grey brick, with the left return wall rendered on the ground floor and tile-hung above. The 19th-century section has chequered red and grey brick to the lower half of the ground floor, with red brick in a Flemish bond pattern above. Both sections are covered by plain tile roofs.

The house comprises an 18th-century block set at right angles to the road, with a taller 19th-century range added parallel to the road, facing the front. The 19th-century range sits on a brick plinth, features projecting eaves with a moulded wooden cornice, and has a shallow-pitched hipped roof. It includes slightly projecting brick end stacks and a central rear stack. The front of the 19th-century range has a regular five-window front with recessed four-pane glazing-bar sashes, featuring segmental-headed glazing with rubbed brick voussoirs and brick keystones. The ground floor windows are taller. A deeply recessed panelled front door has a tall rectangular fanlight; it is sheltered by an outer architrave with 20th-century glazing, a semi-circular head, rubbed brick voussoirs, and a keystone, and is accessed by four steps.

To the rear, a wing on the left has two storeys, a rendered plinth, a plain wooden eaves band, a hipped roof, a left hip returning, a central brick stack, and irregular fenestration with two 12-pane glazing-bar sashes in open boxes. A panelled door is located to the right of the stack. A return wing is present on the left. The interior was not inspected.
