Description
The Hop-Pickers' Kitchen is a 19th-century cook-house located in Staplehurst on Pristling Lane. It is constructed of red brick with occasional grey headers in Flemish bond and features a plain tile roof. The building is single storey and has a gabled design. It includes two apparently separate rooms, with projecting shouldered gable-end stacks that rise well above the ridge, corbelled out from about halfway up the wall. There is one window opening at each end and two doors set towards the center. At the rear, there is a brick lean-to with a slate roof, which contains two separate WCs, each with an external door only. Inside, there is a broad hearth with a cambered head across each gable end, and a brick wall separates the two rooms, with boarding above the eaves level.
