Description
Kislingbury Grange is a farmhouse dating from the early to mid-19th century, remodelled in the late 19th century with some 20th-century alterations. The house is built of red brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with a slate roof, brick ridge stacks, and end stacks. It follows a double-depth plan and has a 2-storey, 4-window front. A double-leaf, part-glazed door is positioned to the right of the centre, set within a moulded wooden surround with fluted Doric pilasters that support a cornice and hood. A round-arched window is located to the left. The ground and first floors feature 3-light casement windows on either side and above the door, with segmental-arched heads. A 2-light casement window is on the first floor to the left of the centre, also with a segmental-arched head. The house has an ironstone plinth and stone-coped gables with kneelers. A lower 2-storey kitchen wing is attached to the right, characterized by flared headers. It includes a plank door with a stop-chamfered wood lintel and a straight hood on brackets, as well as a 3-light casement window to the ground floor and a 2-light casement to the first floor, both with stop-chamfered wood lintels. Inside, the kitchen features stop-chamfered spine beams with run-out stops. An open fireplace with a stop-chamfered bressumer is present, along with a late 18th-century wooden fireplace surround in an upstairs room.
