Description
This barn, located about 5 metres north of Mathurst Farmhouse, dates from the early to mid-17th century. It is timber framed and weatherboarded, topped with a plain tile roof. The structure consists of three timber-framed bays arranged at right angles to the road, featuring a hipped roof with gablets. There are lean-tos on each side and at each gable end. A boarded central porch with a hipped plain-tile roof rises from the north aisle. Inside, the barn has gunstock-jowled posts and a clasped purlin roof with diminishing principal rafters, supported by vertical queen-struts to the collars. The wall-plate features an edge-halved scarf joint, and there are tension braces on the original barn walls. In one area, the infilling above the midrail is made of plastered daub. The barn is included for its group value.
